Finishing Up: Christmas Mini Album / Journal

Thursday, December 31, 2009 By Unknown 0 Comments
Well, here is my Christmas Mini Album / Journal up through Christmas Day. It was so fun looking back through it and seeing everything that happened. I had to buy 2" binder rings at Staples after the 1" ones didn't hold enough :) I loved stashing random mementos each day and then punching holes in them or gluing them down to one of the pages. I didn't photograph every single page, so some of the numbers aren't visible. I also haven't developed my pictures since the 23rd, but will add those soon :) I blurred out some of the journaling so as to protect privacy... and you'll see that one day my son (while standing right beside me in my studio/work area) got into an extra string of bubble lights (did you ever have those growing up? we did and loved them...) bit off the glass tip and SWALLOWED the fluid from one of the light vials. Like, TOXIC fluid. Like, cause serious problems, fluid. Like, you aren't even supposed to breathe the fumes or let it touch your skin. My hubby was at class (I texted him "911" and he left class, books and bookbag and all, and came home) and I was on the phone with poison control (praise God the lady on the phone was so sweet and helpful and helped calm me down) and it is nothing short of the grace of God that he is ok and had absolutely no problems whatsoever with ingesting the fluid. A miracle. Praise God. Needless to say, we no longer have that string of lights. :)

You'll also see that we ate out....A LOT. I'm embarrassed at how many times we had carry out (*COUGH and not all of them are pictured ;)). This has by far been the CRAZIEST December we have ever experienced with our schedules- work, school, work travel, travel, unforeseen events, family events etc.
But, it's been a great month, a great holiday season full of wonderful family time and memories and we are excited for 2010 and what it holds :) Happy New Year!

These are oh-so-good, and oh-so-easy to make! Perfect to take to a New Year's Eve party. Enjoy!

Sausage and Cheese Balls
3 cups Bisquick mix
1 pound bulk pork sausage
4 cups (16 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary leaves
1/2 teaspoon parsley flakes

Tuesday Tutorial: Mini Journal Notepads

Tuesday, December 29, 2009 By Unknown 0 Comments
I posted about these mini journal notepads back in the summer and wanted to share a tutorial so you can make some of your own :) They're super easy to make and make fun journaling spots on a scrapbook layout or housed in a pocket in a journal or mini album. Or you could stick one in an envelope and send a cute note to a friend or family member.

First, gather supplies and cut your papers to size. I also put chipboard on the back of each one, but that is optional and completely up to you. I liked that it made it more durable, but would probably leave it off if I were sending a note to a friend.

Supplies:
- 10-15 sheets of paper cut to 3" x 4.25" for each notepad you are making - these sheets can be notebook paper, graph paper or any sort of paper you can write on
- chipboard (optional) cut to 3" x 4.25" for each notepad
- decorative paper - 1 sheet cut to 3.5" x 2" for each notepad
- stapler and staples
- metal ruler, exacto blade or rotary cutter, cutting mat (or you could cut with scissors after drawing lines on the cut lines, just might not be as straight)
- sewing machine (or you can use glue or glue dots)

- embellishments such as buttons, felt shapes, prima flowers, jewel dot stickers
1. Cut all materials to size specified above.

2. Staple sheets for each pad together - this makes it easier to assemble instead of having 15 sheets of paper flying all over the place ;) I would have stapled it to the chipboard, but my chipboard was too thick.

3. Score the decorative papers in half, lengthwise.

4. Layer each notepad: chipboard on the bottom, then your stapled sheets, with staples at the top end (these will get covered up), then the decorative paper slipped on top, like a hat (so, you will see 1" of decorative paper on the front and 1" on the back when you flip the notepad over). Stitch a straight stitch with a sewing machine, OR, using glue or glue dots, glue the pieces together- glue the decorative paper to the chipboard (on the back), then glue the last sheet of the notepad to the chipboard and then glue the decorative paper to the front of the stapled sheets. Basically make it look like this:
5. Now trim the excess decorative paper sides off.

6. Embellish (or leave blank) and Voila! Cute Mini Journal Notepads!

Monday Faves: 2010 Calendar Roundup

Monday, December 28, 2009 By Unknown 0 Comments
Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! :) We had a lovely Christmas seeing both sides of our family. It was wonderful to see everyone and spend time together :)

My sweet hubby bought me a cute calendar kit to make a hanging calendar for 2010, so I got to thinking about how many ways you can possibly make and/or design a calendar. I took a look around at all the amazing calendars available on etsy. So many unique and beautiful types of calendars- from printed calendars , to letterpress, to notebook planners, to print yourself, to pillows, to tea towels, to fabric. So many fabulous ideas out there! Here is a round up of several calendars I came across that made me smile. I'm sure I'll be adding more. Have you bought or made a calendar for 2010? If so, what kind? I think I already have 3 or 4 calendars - one to hang on the fridge, a desktop calendar/planner, a pocket planner, the one I am going to make from the kit, plus a couple others. Hmmm...So obviously, there is absolutely no reason I should forget anything going on in 2010 ;)
